The Friends of Tynemouth Station were formed in 1987 following the presentation of the first feasibility study carried out by CSV to see how the Station could be saved and become an important community resource as well as being commercially viable.
The Friends role is to support these objectives; to promote the Station when ever they can; campaign for it to be fully restored; to lobby on various issues that will improve the Stations facilities; to carry out various activities that illustrate the important role that this wonderful set of buildings can fulfil now in the twenty first century.
Membership is open to everyone, of whatever age, who amongst other things cares about our local and industrial heritage, transport, the arts and the environment.
The Friends run 4 very successful Book Fairs a year in the Station.
The Friends join with other partners in the organisation and running of various large and small scale events in the Station such as ElecFest ’04 and The Time Festival.
The Friends hold meetings on topics to do with railways and transport, conservation and the environment and related subjects.
The Friends organise a couple of trips a year to places of interest connected with the topics listed above.
